Cuneo Civic Museum - Bell Tower and Bells
Bell tower and bells
In this area, the foundation wall of the imposing bell tower is visible, built outside the 14th-century building between the late 14th and early 15th centuries. The entire area between the apse of the 14th-century church and the bell tower was used as a cemetery between the 15th and 18th centuries. The complete reconstruction of the complex began in this area in the early 15th century, occupying an area perhaps previously used as a convent vegetable garden and gardens, as confirmed by the archaeological stratigraphy and the remains of pre-existing wall structures to the 15th-century structure, which were spared from the excavations for burials.
The excavations also brought to light a bell-casting plant dating back to the original phase of the bell tower.
