Cuneo Civic Museum Cultural Passport

A cultural passport for all newborns in Cuneo

Since 2018, the Cuneo Civic Museum has been part of the network of museums participating in the "Born with Culture" project, conceived by the Fondazione Medicina a Misura di Donna (Women's Medicine Foundation), promoted by the Abbonamento Musei network, and the Piedmont Cultural Observatory. The project aims to strengthen museums' ability to play an active role in parental support for children's cognitive development, starting in early childhood.

It includes a Cultural Passport, given at birth as a welcome to life, which allows free access to over 40 Family and Kids Friendly accredited museums in Piedmont for the entire first year of the baby's life. Free access is extended to two accompanying parents or two other family members.

The Passport is distributed by the Santa Croce e Carle Hospital in Cuneo, which lists Culture, as an anthropological experience, among the recommendations for healthy growth from the first cry, and by the city's URP (Public Relations Office), as well as by the reception of the Cuneo Civic Museum.

In April 2023, the agreement between the Municipality of Cuneo, the Fondazione Medicina e Misura di Donna, and the Santa Croce e Carle Hospital of Cuneo was renewed, regulating the parties' relationship for the promotion and distribution of the Cultural Passport. In the spring of the same year, the Cuneo Cultural Passport was translated into eight languages: Albanian, Arabic, Chinese, French, English, Romanian, Spanish, and Ukrainian. The Meet hub coordinated the translation work, and the resources for the translations were provided by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo as part of the project "San Francesco in Cuneo: together for cultural valorization.".

Why is this project important? The "Born with Culture" project, with its Cultural Passport, dispels the myth of the museum as an elitist space, for the few, and for professionals only. It favors a vision geared toward discovering the museum as a place of experiences and emotions for everyone, from a very young age. Medical and scientific studies have demonstrated that visiting a museum, experiencing art, and enjoying a cultural experience generates significant well-being effects in people of all ages, reducing anxiety and stress levels. So let's think about how truly rewarding such an experience can be for new parents with even very young children.

In this regard, and finally, both Civic Museums of Cuneo are equipped with a breastfeeding area within the museum, with spaces suitable for changing and caring for newborns and for playing and having fun for children aged between 0 and 6.
