All Library services

Below is a list of all the information you may find useful.

  • Membership is free and open to everyone over the age of 14. Membership requires a valid ID and tax code.
  • minors under 18 must present the authorization form which can be downloaded here and can also access the 0-18 Library;
  • Remote membership is not possible, but physical presence at the counter (this is a request from the digital lending service provider).
  • 4 volumes can be borrowed ; exceptions for study and research purposes must be agreed upon with the management (reference works, dictionaries, encyclopedias, rare or particularly valuable works, ancient books, works containing valuable illustrations and plates, and periodicals are excluded from home lending);
  • Since December 2010, an Audiobooks, which can be borrowed according to the same rules as books;
  • the loan term is 30 days;
  • Late users will be suspended from the service for a period proportional to the delay (but will be able to continue using the library's other lending services).
  • Only one renewal  is possible for an additional 30 days, if you are punctual with respect to the expiration date and if there are no reservations from other users;
  • renewal can be requested at the counter, by telephone or by email;
  • Once the renewal deadline has expired, the books must be returned to the library, the librarian will check their condition and – if not requested by another reader – they can be taken back with a new loan;
  • Telephone renewal has been available since January 7, 2009 : simply call 0171.444.656, Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. You can also request renewal by email at biblioteca@comune.cuneo.it .
  • It is possible to reserve books on loan (up to 4 reservations can be made per card); placing a reservation blocks the renewal of the active loan; upon return of the book, you will be notified via SMS;
  • Reservations can be requested at the counter, or by writing to biblioteca@comune.cuneo.it, indicating your membership number and the details of the book you wish to reserve.
  • it is possible to borrow a total of 2 audiovisual materials (DVD or VHS), in addition to the library material;
  • the loan duration is set at 7 days;
  • Late users will be suspended from the service for a number of days equal to the number of days they have been late (they will however be able to continue using the library's other lending services);
  • in compliance with the current copyright law (Law of 22 April 1941, n. 633 and subsequent amendments and additions) the library does not lend audiovisual materials before the expiry of 18 months "from the first act of exercising the right of distribution";
  • scans of all the DVD covers owned by the library (Cinema section) can be consulted online, in order of placement;
  • an alphabetical list of titles (DVD cinema section) is also available to users , updated monthly;
  • the catalogue of the Library's audiovisual material can be consulted on this page.

In December 2007, a return box for borrowed items was installed in Via Cacciatori delle Alpi, in front of the library. Both books and audiovisual materials can be returned here. The system, equipped with security features to prevent theft and the insertion of liquids, is under video surveillance.

  • Since December 2013, the library (through the Cuneo Library System) has offered its users the Media Library On Line digital lending service. Ebooks , periodicals , audiobooks , MP3s , films , and much more are available free of charge . Membership is reserved  for users residing within the Cuneo Library System area ; existing members can request login credentials by writing to biblioteca@comune.cuneo.it .
  • At the same time, the loan service for Sony PRS-T3 e-readers with a selection of preloaded e-books has been activated . Readers can be requested at the checkout desk, just like paperbacks (the loan period is 30 days, renewable once). Thanks to the Camilla family for their valuable contribution to the project's launch.

You can request to purchase books not yet owned by the library, if they are regularly on sale, by filling out this form.

  • Books not present in the library catalogue can be requested from other Italian and foreign libraries by filling out this form;
  • The Cuneo Civic Library sends its volumes for interlibrary loan to Italian and foreign libraries. The fee is €4.00 (or half an IFLA voucher) for each volume shipped. Requests should be sent to ill.biblioteca@comune.cuneo.it; payment can be made via PagoPA.
  • consultation room with encyclopedias, directories, dictionaries, newspapers, magazines, Italian Laws on the web (free);
  • The library holds approximately 1,600 periodical titles; some local titles are currently being digitized. The following periodicals can be consulted on the I Giornali del Piemonte website: La Guida (1945-in operation), La Provincia Grande (1941-1943), La Sentinella delle Alpi (1858-1928), La Sentinella d'Italia (1928-1941), Gazzetta di Cuneo / Gazzetta Provinciale di Cuneo (1888);
  • There is a photocopying , at a price of €0.10 for black and white A4 sheets, €0.20 for black and white A3 sheets, €0.30 for colour A4 sheets and €0.60 for colour A3 sheets;
  • Two computers for internet browsing, a service available exclusively to users who have completed and signed the terms of use. Each session lasts half an hour, after which the computer automatically restarts. As required by Regional Law No. 11 of August 1, 2018 (Coordinated Provisions on Culture), internet browsing at civic libraries is free: click here for the terms of use of the service;
  • online library catalogs on this page;
  • four workstations  are available to readers for consulting the catalogues on site;
  • there are also paper catalogues by author, by subject, topographical, systematic and by title (fiction only);
  • The paper catalogues were closed in December 2010 (since then, the cards for new cataloguings have no longer been inserted) and modernised during the lockdown : the cards for books already catalogued in SBN were eliminated, which therefore must now be searched through Librinlinea;
  • The online catalogue contains all titles purchased after 1995. Previous material is currently being added, but to obtain all the results, it is always preferable to complete the search in the online catalogue by consulting the paper catalogue.

The library offers free Wi-Fi through the FreePiemonteWiFi service, part of the FreeItaliaWiFi federated networks. You have 12 hours of free internet access per day (with a 750 MB data limit). All information and the registration page are available on the FreePiemonteWiFi.

The library collaborates with BII Onlus – Biblioteca Italiana Ipovedenti, established in Treviso in October 2009. A specific library for the visually impaired (law 138/2001: Art. 4, 5, 6), for the elderly suffering from age-related vision problems, for subjects with visual impairments not legally classifiable, who can read completely independently thanks to the large-print books made available free of charge in public libraries: click here for the list of available titles.

Since September 2021, the library courtyard has been one of six locations in the city where new e-bike charging stations have been installed. Simply download Duferco Energia and sign up for the free service.

Since June 2019, the Cuneo Civic Library and the 0-18 Library, in collaboration with theRobert Hollman Association of Friends of the Talking Book for the Blind of the Verbania Lions Club, have been providing the Libro Parlato Lions service, a collection of audiobooks available exclusively to people who, due to physical or sensory disabilities, are unable to read independently—in particular, the blind, the severely visually impaired, and dyslexics. Only disabled people who meet the aforementioned requirements can access the service. The library will assist users in submitting the required certification to the Libro Parlato Lions office in Verbania, along with a signed registration application. The Libro Parlato Lions office in Verbania will, based on this documentation, register users free of charge.

Since October 2018, the Cuneo Civic Libraries have been participating in the "Books for All" project promoted by the Paideia Foundation of Turin, which involves the publication and provision of books with symbols used in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to promote accessible reading for all children. The 0-18 Library has set up a dedicated AAC shelf with a series of illustrated books, fairy tales, and short stories available for borrowing and consultation. There are also four workstations equipped with SymWriter 2 software, three in the 0-18 Library and one in the Civic Library's Reading Room. Families, teachers, and healthcare workers can use the program free of charge to create their own symbol strings.

The primary goal of the Local Reading Pact is to create a permanent collaborative network among all the cultural organizations within the Cuneo Municipality that work to make reading a widespread social habit. Click here for the full text.
