An old actor waits to take the stage to play the title character in Strindberg's The Thunderstorm . The thirty minutes that separate him from the start of the show stretch out and transform into a journey through memories, where time loses all linearity and the past regains its voice.

Directed by Massimo Popolizio and starring Umberto Orsini, Before the Storm is an intimate and delicate portrait of the actor's craft and, at the same time, a journey through Italian history from the postwar period to the present. Against a powerfully evocative backdrop, images and sounds accompany the protagonist toward a seemingly final destination, yet one that remains just beyond the horizon.
