ITINERARIES 2026 – REVOLUTION, TODAY!
Bangladesh: An Unfinished Revolution?
with Giuliano Battiston

From 2024 to 2026, the student uprising transformed Bangladesh. What remains of the revolutionary spirit today?

In Bangladesh, in the space of just a few weeks, the government transitioned from Sheikh Hasina's authoritarian rule to a government led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus. This transition was made possible by the explosion onto the political scene of thousands of students who took to the streets across the country.

Their strength was organizational and symbolic: occupied universities, spontaneous coordination, and resistance to information blackouts. Today, the promise of guaranteeing rights and democracy takes center stage. But what remains of the revolutionary spirit today?

Giuliano Battiston is a journalist and independent researcher, editor of the magazine Corvialista and a member of the Lettera22 association. He contributes to newspapers, radio stations, and magazines, and teaches at the Lelio Basso School of Journalism in Rome, the Alessandro Leogrande School, and the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in L'Aquila. In Rome, he coordinates MIP – Il Mondo in periferia, the Festival of Foreign and Community Journalism. His latest book (with E. Giordana) is On Two Sides of the Border. Rohingya, Chronicles of a Persecuted People (add editore 2026).
