With Different Eyes in Cuneo. The annual event organized by the SAI project to celebrate the United Nations' World Refugee Day returns on Friday, June 26th, at the Sala Varco Auditorium, with a talk titled "Borders of Europe. Prospects and Consequences with the Entry into Force of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum." From 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., experts will engage with each other and the public. Admission is free, registration is required.
This year, the SAI Cuneo project, in collaboration with the provincial network's member administrations, is offering residents and local communities the event titled "With Different Eyes." This series of events celebrates the United Nations' World Refugee Day (June 20).
Following the migration-themed film screenings held in recent days in Borgo San Dalmazzo, Bra, Costigliole Saluzzo, and Roccasparvera, the initiatives continue with the central event of the entire program, which will be held in the provincial capital, thanks also to the collaboration of the Municipality of Cuneo (lead partner of the SAI project).
After welcoming and registering guests and greetings from officials (from 9:30 to 10:30), the event will begin with Chiara Cirillo (lawyer and consultant on human trafficking and labor exploitation), who will discuss "The Path to the Protection of Victims of Trafficking." This will be a joint reading of the legislation on human trafficking and the provisions of the European Pact. At 11:00, Maurizio Veglio (lawyer, member of the Association for Legal Studies on Immigration) will speak about "A Devastating (Im)Pact. How Europe Has Transformed the Asylum Application Into a Criminal Argument." Subsequently, Devisri Nambiar (cultural anthropologist and socio-legal worker) will give a presentation entitled "An Anthropological Perspective on the New European Pact: What Does It Tell Us About People on the Move and Who We Are?".
At 12:00, a roundtable discussion will review the morning's findings, followed by lunch at Open Baladin, Cuneo.
The session will resume at 2:30 pm with Giovanna Cavallo (historian and expert on international protection and human rights, Forum per cambiare l'ordine delle cose), whose presentation will be "From Borders to Territories: The Role of Civil Society in Protecting Rights in the Framework of the New European Pact on Migration and Asylum." This will be followed by a presentation by Carla Aggradi Ferrari (psychiatrist and psychotherapist, president of the National Mental Health Forum and the Marco Cavallo Association of Brescia), entitled "Marco Cavallo in Favor of Freedom of Movement." The discussion, which concludes at 4:00 pm, will be moderated by Teresa Menchetti, sociologist at the Forum per cambiare l'ordine delle cose. Attendance is free, but registration is required.
However, the June 26th event will continue into the late afternoon, when, at 5 pm, residents will be invited to join the procession that will wind from Piazza Galimberti through the city streets to the Parco della Resistenza, led by the large blue wooden and papier-mâché statue of Marco Cavallo, artistic performances by Dispari Teatro, and music by Bandaradan.
