The Truth Is in the Shadows – A Tribute to Berto Ravotti 1924–2014
From 6 June to 19 July 2026, at Palazzo Samone (Via Amedeo Rossi, 4) in Cuneo, the exhibition “The truth is in the shadows” can be visited , a tribute to Berto Ravotti 1924-2014.

Part of the "OMG – grandArte 2025-2026 – The Boundaries of the Sacred" series , the exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to pay homage to Berto Ravotti , an artist who was particularly committed to pursuing the human values of freedom, justice, and respect for the environment around us. From a "young provincial painter," as Ezio Briatore wrote in 1978, Ravotti rose to national recognition from official critics thanks to his tireless dedication to the pursuit of "diverse themes and experiments," which led him to discover "unusual paths to painting." A selection of approximately sixty works , arranged chronologically and drawn from private collections in Cuneo, will be presented in the exhibition rooms of Palazzo Samone . The works document the three most significant moments of his original artistic creativity, spanning the 1960s and 1970s.
Bartolomeo “Berto” Ravotti (1924-2014), born in Montaldo Mondovì and resident in Cuneo for most of his life, was a partisan during the Resistance and received his artistic training at the Accademia Albertina in Turin. After a period dedicated to teaching, from 1957 he devoted himself intensely to painting, exhibiting in Italy and abroad and receiving numerous awards. His artistic research shifted from essential figuration to an informal painting characterized by textural effects and the theme of “shadows,” a distinctive feature of his language.
In 1964, he collaborated on the construction of the Ravensbrück Shrine of Italian Deportees and in 1966 he created a work together with Lucio Fontana. In the 1970s, he moved towards a more conceptual language, while from the 1980s, he oriented his production towards spiritual themes and multimedia experimentation. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in various Italian cities.
