SONS OF TROY BY AND WITH PAOLO CEVOLI
In this new monologue, Paolo Cevoli recounts Aeneas's legendary journey in an ironic and contemporary way, comparing it to other journeys that have marked the history of humanity: from Christopher Columbus to Little Red Riding Hood, from the Viking prince Ragnar to his father Luciano, who emigrated to Australia in the 1950s.
Aeneas, a defeated hero, flees burning Troy with his gods in his pockets, his father on his shoulders, and his young son by the hand: his roots and the hope for a better future. After a thousand adventures, he reaches the mouth of the Tiber where he finds a suckling sow—a prophetic sign of where he should stop—and while the women prepare focaccia, the Trojan exiles sacrifice the sow and her piglets. The epic journey of Rome's founder concludes with a picnic of porchetta sandwiches.
This and many other episodes from Virgil's poem are at the heart of Paolo Cevoli's story, which rediscovers the values and roots of the Italian people. Just as Virgil wrote the Aeneid to establish a noble dependence on the ancient Romans, our ancestors. He reasoned: rather than be the children of no one, it is better to be the children of Troy.
