Sacred
The exhibition "Sacrum" is the twenty-fifth event organized by grandArte as part of the "OMG – grandArte 2025-2026 – The Boundaries of the Sacred" series, which will present a representative series of other art exhibitions in numerous locations throughout the province throughout 2025-2026.
The inauguration is scheduled for Saturday, July 18th at the Monumental Complex of San Francesco in Cuneo: doors will open to the public at 4:30 pm, with the inaugural ceremony taking place approximately at 5:15 pm.
"Sacrum" is a group exhibition of contemporary art, curated by Roberto Mastroianni, hosted in the monumental spaces of the former Church of San Francesco, now the beating heart of the Monumental Complex of the Civic Museum of Cuneo. It explores the theme of the sacred in relation to its anthropological and existential dimensions.
The exhibition presents a visual narrative on the relationship between the sacred and contemporaneity, using the languages of art to stage an iconography of the relationship between existence, otherness, and transcendence, exploring a universal tension to confront the invisible, the absolute, social and individual anxieties, and everything that transcends the limits of our everyday perception.
This choral narrative, brought to life by the works of some of the most interesting contemporary Italian artists (Nicola Bolla, Domenico Borrelli, Gisella Chaudry, Marco Cordero, Carlo D'Oria, Francesca Dondoglio, Gabriele Garbolino, Paolo Grassino, Luigi Stoisa, Fabio Viale, Claudia Virginia Vitari), explores that "Mysterium tremendum e fascinans," as religious historian and philosopher Rudolf Otto defined the sacred—a tremendous and fascinating mystery. The exhibition unfolds across three main axes: the sacred and corporeality, the threshold and silence, and the anthropological and existential dimension of sacredness. The exhibition unfolds around the two fundamental coordinates of painting and installation sculpture, creating a dialogue with the cathedral's austere Gothic architecture, transforming the space into a sounding board for aesthetic perception and the fundamental questions of human existence.
