Nuto Revelli. Images from the Anello Forte: Women and the Rural World

On Saturday, November 15, at 4:30 pm, in Piazza Virginio (Cuneo), the exhibition of photographs by Bruno Murialdo will be inaugurated. The exhibition will be displayed outdoors under the canopy of the market area and will therefore be open to visitors every day from November 15 to December 3, 2025.
The exhibition was set up with the Municipality of Cuneo, with the contribution of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, in collaboration with the “E. De Amicis” high school of Cuneo and La Stampa.

The exhibition features twenty-two black-and-white photographs of female witnesses of the Anello Forte, taken by Bruno Murialdo when he accompanied the writer and partisan from Cuneo on his interviews. It celebrates the fortieth anniversary of the publication of Nuto Revelli's book, L'anello forte. La donna, storie di vita contadina (The Strong Ring. Women, Stories of Peasant Life), published by Einaudi in 1985 and recently republished by the same publisher with an essay by Antonella Tarpino and an afterword by Anna Rossi Doria. L'anello forte is the book in which Nuto Revelli collected 260 testimonies from women of all ages, 60 of whom were from the south, who lived in the depopulated rural areas of the Cuneo province in the 1970s and 1980s. Six years of work dedicated to listening to the stories of women who were being heard for the first time and who spoke about themselves, touching on a wide range of themes, from war to rural life, from challenging gender roles to motherhood, the body, folk traditions, and magic.

The exhibition will be accompanied by audio commentary by students from the “E. De Amicis” high school in Cuneo, who have worked to engage in dialogue with the witnesses portrayed.
