Franco Cordero: Memory and Contemporaneity

A meeting of technological innovation and memory to tell the story of the work on the archive and the figure of the jurist and writer

Thursday, April 16, 5 Hall of Honour of the Town Hall of the Municipality of Cuneo (Via Roma 28)

How can artificial intelligence contribute to archive work and open up new research possibilities ? And how can it, at the same time, convey the complexity of a figure like Franco Cordero ?

These questions are the starting point for the meeting promoted by the Polo del '900 in collaboration with the City of Cuneo , dedicated to the Franco Cordero Archives . It will take place on Thursday, April 16th at 5:00 pm in the Hall of Honor of Cuneo Town Hall . The event brings together technological innovation and cultural memory and is divided into two complementary parts.

At the center is the work of reorganizing and enhancing the Cordero archive, a native digital collection —not derived from the digitization of paper documents— donated to the Fondazione Polo del '900.This heritage, consisting of published and unpublished writings, work materials, and personal documents, has been tested with specially developed artificial intelligence toolscapable of identifying content, themes, and relationships, highlighting the connections between Cordero's private life —also chronicled in the unpublished diary— and his intellectual work.

The first part of the meeting will focus on this process: an in-depth look at the use of AI to analyze and enhance the archive. Alessandro Rubini, Director of the Polo del '900, and Luca Stornaiuolo, PhD in Information Technology, expert in generative AI models and co-founder of Toretei, will discuss the issue.

The second part retraces the figure and the human and intellectual story of Franco Cordero , one of the most original Italian jurists and writers of the second half of the twentieth century: from his expulsion from the Catholic University, following the publication of Gli osservanti , up to the Risposta a Monsignore , in a journey that intertwines law , literature and critical thought .

Alessandro Ferrero , President of the Cuneo Bar Association, and Bruno Quaranta , journalist, will discuss the issue

The meeting will be moderated by Cristina Clerico, Councillor for Culture of the City of Cuneo, and will open with institutional greetings from Patrizia Manassero, Mayor of the City of Cuneo, and Alessandro Rubini, Director of the Polo del '900.
