"Building Bridges: Work, Migration, and Cooperation between Italy and Senegal"
An opportunity for discussion and storytelling, highlighting the connections between territories, people, and experiences: "Building Bridges. Work, Migration, and Cooperation between Italy and Senegal" will be held on Tuesday, April 14th at 8:30 pm at the Cinema Monviso in Cuneo. This evening will focus on migration, development, and international cooperation. The event will mark the conclusion of the "Inclusive Work" project, funded by the Piedmont Region's "Piedmont and Sub-Saharan Africa – Year 2024" call for proposals.
The evening will open with the screening of the film “Sunu Gaal,” a 72-minute Spanish-produced documentary directed by Josep T. Parìs, which explores the stories of young Senegalese people planning to emigrate to Europe, highlighting their awareness of racism, neocolonialism, and the search for freedom.
This will be followed by a public discussion featuring LVIA President Alberto Valmaggia, Cuneo Mayor Patrizia Manassero, and a representative of Cuneo's Senegalese community, moderated by Luca Prestia. The discussion will focus on migration and labor, viewed in light of experiences with decentralized cooperation between local authorities. A video contribution by the Mayor of Thiès Ouest, Mamadou Djitté, will also be provided, demonstrating the active ties between the regions involved.
Through these experiences, the evening aims to offer a cross-cutting reflection that intertwines migration, labor, and development, highlighting the role of relationships between local communities in building shared and sustainable paths. It is an open invitation to citizens to explore highly topical issues and to appreciate the significance of cooperation as a tool for dialogue and mutual growth. The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Cuneo, the Municipality of Thiès Ouest, LVIA, and the Employment Center.
