Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren at the theater

Come to the Toselli Theater in Cuneo for the show "Pippi Longstocking," performed by the AIDA Foundation!
The show tells the story of Pippi, a completely unconventional little girl, and her friends through her playful and carefree eyes. From her arrival at Villa Villacolle to her games with Annika and Tommy, the show offers a comprehensive and entertaining portrait of one of the most beloved characters, all set against a colorful backdrop.
The sets, costumes, and puppets were designed by Tjåsa Gusfor, one of Sweden's leading set designers, who recreated Pippi Longstocking's microworld, a sort of fantastical miniaturization of her home, inside and out, where the puppets (operated by the actors on stage, not hidden as in puppet theater) are the true protagonists of the scene.
The actor-manipulator, gazing intently at the puppet, moves by sight within a puppet-sized, child-sized set, capturing the viewer's attention. Verbal and visual language, a theater of bodies and figures in motion: these are the techniques used to describe and tell children Pippi's story.
The show as a whole remains absolutely faithful to the original text and captures the character's bittersweet essence: a completely extraordinary little girl who is allowed everything, free from commitments, duties, and rules. Among the interesting facts, it's worth noting that this character's traits have inspired many bestselling Swedish novels, including Lisbeth Salander from Stieg Larsson's Millennium saga.
Staged in 2007 to mark the centenary of the author's birth, the show is one of the longest-running and most popular shows at the Aida Foundation, a theater production center in Verona.
During the production, Olof Nyman, the husband of Karin, Astrid Lindgren's daughter and representative of the heirs, revised the text's dramaturgy, confirming its authenticity. Karin herself attended the dress rehearsals, finally approving its distribution in Italy. A few years later, the Aida Foundation won the Biglietto d'oro Agis-ETI for this performance's success with the public.
