Call for applications for Universal Civil Service volunteers

The Department of Youth and Universal Civil Service published the call for applications for volunteers between the ages of 18 and 28 to be employed in Universal Civil Service projects on December 18. The deadline for applications is 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

Nationally, 62,549 volunteers to work on projects in Italy and abroad.

Civil Service, aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 28, offers an opportunity for personal and professional growth, as well as a good gateway to the world of work and a chance to earn credits for university studies. Those who choose to commit to the Universal Civil Service for 12 months choose to add valuable experience to their knowledge base, which will be useful for their professional and career development, while also ensuring a modicum of financial independence.

The Municipality of Cuneo is among the proponents of three different Civil Service projects: at the Civic Library, at the Europa Direct Help Desk, and at the Municipal Historical Archives. The volunteers will be entitled to a monthly reimbursement of €507.30, some paid leave for personal or study reasons, meal vouchers, and healthcare in the event of illness or injury. The service will last 12 months and will consist of a total of 1,145 hours, for an average of 25 hours per week.

Applications can be submitted exclusively through the DOL (Dollar Online Application (https://domandaonline.serviziocivile.it/), accessible via PC, tablet, and smartphone. The application compilation and submission services can only be accessed through SPID (Programmable Identity System) or with the credentials provided by the Department for Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service.

Below is the presentation of the three projects of the Municipality of Cuneo

The Civic Library will select four volunteers (two for the Adult Library and two for the Children's Library) for the "Listening Libraries" project, which aims to consolidate the cultural welfare model adopted with the Culture 0/6 project, "Cultura con cura" (grow with care), with the aim of promoting the well-being and health of individuals and families through the enjoyment of cultural activities. Special attention will be given to the most vulnerable population groups, in collaboration with local organizations in the arts, education, social services, and healthcare sectors.

In anticipation of the opening of the new Cultural Hub at Palazzo Santa Croce, the Library intends to work on a participatory design of its spaces and functions through an extensive audit, focusing research on those segments of the population who do not use library services.

These objectives cannot be separated from strengthening library services and organizing reading promotion activities. The cultural offerings of the Cuneo Libraries begin with the very young with the Born to Read project, accompany children and teens as they grow, and reach adults through Scrittorincittà and the City of Cuneo Award for the First Novel, as part of the Cuneo Library System. The challenge is to find new ways to reach a portion of the "non-public" audience by working in a multidisciplinary approach with schools, associations, and the health and social care sector.

The Europe Direct Help Desk is an information service on European Union activities and opportunities, open to all citizens. It is managed by the Municipality of Cuneo and is part of the network of Official European Union Information Centres (managed by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Communication), which includes 46 centres in Italy and over 400 centres across Europe.

One volunteer will be selected for the " Generation Future" project. They will support the staff in their communication and awareness-raising activities regarding the European Union throughout the entire southwest Piedmont region. Specifically, they will be involved in designing events for young people and collaborating in organizing workshops with schools and in communicating key European policies. The primary focus of the Civil Service project will be the active involvement of citizens (especially young people) in the political life of the Union, with a particular focus on disseminating the founding values ​​of European democracy. 

The Archives and Open Data Office of the Data Processing and Demographics Department of the Municipality of Cuneo is a service provided to all citizens. Its goal is to organize free access and display of the historical documentation of the municipality and to provide information, through the transparency of the documents archived there, about municipal institutions and their administrative functions in the past. It preserves and protects, in accordance with the law, kilometers of inventoried and methodically archived documents, dating from the early Middle Ages to the present day. It is managed by the Municipality of Cuneo and is part of the national archives and libraries network.

Two volunteers will be selected at the office for the " Le carte raccontano " project . They will assist the staff in communicating and disseminating the archive's contents. They will be involved in planning events for young people of all ages for this purpose, and will collaborate in organizing workshops with schools.

The project's primary focus is to foster renewed interest in local culture and historical documents, seen as educational and training tools, making them more accessible through digitization and usable through local awareness-raising activities. The project will focus on raising public awareness and making the documents produced and attached to the Municipality of Cuneo's administrative procedures increasingly accessible.
