The Civic Library begins preparing for its move: extraordinary closure and visits to the storage rooms

The Civic Library is beginning preparations for its move to Palazzo Santa Croce.
While construction nears completion and the building's remodeling is being planned, work is also beginning on the library's book and documentary collections.
A move isn't simply a matter of moving the library from its 1932 location to a new one; it's a time to rethink the collections, taking into account the services offered to the public and the possibilities offered by new technologies and artificial intelligence.
All volumes on open shelves will be microchipped, allowing them to be checked out directly by the reader on the ground and first floors of the new library. They can then be loaded onto the library card for both borrowing and returning, using the self-checkout machines. The volumes will
then be re-labeled and assigned a new location. Fiction will be organized by literary genre, and the local collection will be extracted from all storage areas and placed in the new reading room.
These operations will affect approximately 115,000 of the 350,000 volumes in the Cuneo Civic Library.
The Library has been working for several months to implement all these changes, but some operations must be carried out while the library is closed. Considering that the time needed for the book transfer alone, which is expected to take place during the summer months, will require around 10 weeks, it was decided to divide the relocation operations, which must be completed when the books begin leaving Palazzo Audiffredi, into several months. They will begin in thelast week of January.
From Monday the 26th to Friday the 30th, from 9 am to 12 pm, it will still be possible to read local newspapers and magazines or study in the spaces on the ground floor of Palazzo Santa Croce, at Via Santa Croce 6.
