SYNESTHESIA: CLASSICS IN MOVEMENT

The Municipality of Cuneo is launching an innovative cross-border project to introduce children and new audiences to classical music through concerts, masterclasses, and non-traditional spaces.

A cross-border cultural initiative uniting Italy and France, with the aim of renewing classical music audiences and promoting new forms of social inclusion and innovation. This innovative project, SINESTESIE, is a partnership between the Municipality of Cuneo and the French association "Jeux d'Anches," with the involvement of the Ghedini Conservatory and the Manosque Conservatory in Provence.

Five masterclasses and six concerts are scheduled, all free of charge and aimed especially at families. The first musical events will be held in Cuneo during the first three days of October between the Cloister of the Monumental Complex of San Francesco and the Casa del Fiume. Three more concerts are scheduled for next spring in Manosque.

The name SYNESTHESIE evokes the juxtaposition of two seemingly opposite worlds: classical music and families with young children. Bringing concerts to informal spaces aims to dispel prejudices and make music a natural and enjoyable experience from an early age, providing new developmental stimuli for children aged 0 to 6. Synesthesia, in fact, is the phenomenon whereby stimulation of one sense generates a perception in another.

The long-term goal is to build a reproducible and lasting cultural format, designed to remove the cultural barriers that keep families away from classical music concerts. Therefore, the concerts are held in accessible and unusual venues, such as the Casa del Fiume.

The initiatives will involve the participation of five teachers, 35 students, and six professional artists in Italy and France. The estimated audience is approximately 320 participants, at least 40% of whom will be families with children.

Such a program aims to generate benefits on multiple levels: training and exchange between musicians and teachers, new skills in cultural mediation for partners, the creation of an innovative format that can be integrated into future programming, and the development of a more inclusive and diverse audience.

Co-financing of €52,680 was obtained by the Municipality of Cuneo, in partnership with the French association Jeux d'Anches, as part of the 2nd call for Microprojects of the Interreg “VI-A France-Italia ALCOTRA 2021/2027” Programme.

Events in Cuneo are imminent: concerts will take place in the Cloister of San Francesco and at the Casa del Fiume over the weekend of Thursday, October 1st to Saturday, October 3rd. The concert program, open especially to families with children ages 0-6, is as follows:

All concerts will be free and open to the public, subject to availability. There will also be a welcome surprise for the little ones!
