THE LONG NIGHT OF CHURCHES RETURNS TO SAN SEBASTIAN
On June 6th, the Long Night of Churches, an international festival now in its tenth year, returns to Cuneo—like every year. This year, the event features a special collaboration with the Ghedini Conservatory of Music in Cuneo.
The "Long Night of Churches," the great all-night event for places of worship that blends culture, art, music, and theater, will reach its tenth edition on Friday, June 6, 2025, in a spirit of reflection, spirituality, and evangelization.
It will be a special edition, celebrating the 10th anniversary of an event that has attracted thousands of people throughout Italy thanks to the collaboration of Italian dioceses, shrines, diocesan museums, and countless volunteers. This year, coinciding with the great Jubilee event, the artistic and cultural offerings will be even more prominent.
The theme that will serve as the guiding thread for the 2025 edition is intimately connected to the journey we are all called to undertake this year: the pilgrimage of hope and conversion. "Feeling like pilgrims on the earth where the Lord has placed us." It is in this spirit that we have chosen, among the many proposals, the theme "HUG ME," drawing inspiration from the Bible and the Gospel of Luke (Luke 15:11-32): imagining the Father's joy at seeing a son walking home amidst all the destruction, devastation, and anguish of the world. A Father who lives with outstretched hands, always longing to be able to place them in an embrace on the shoulders of his returning children.
And since there is no better embrace than art and music, the San Sebastiano Diocesan Museum and the Ghedini Conservatory of Cuneo offer an evening of listening and beauty.
On Friday, June 6, 2025, at 9:00 PM in the Church of San Sebastiano, the voices of the Renaissance and Baroque Singing class, accompanied by the students of the Harpsichord class, will create a musical journey that explores the sacred, from the dramatic intensity of Monteverdi to the contrapuntal purity of Palestrina, to the baroque refinement of Steffani and Legrenzi, alternating intensely expressive polyphonic pieces with refined solo moments. The pieces will evoke themes and reflections connected to the sacredness of the place that hosts them. The event is part of the Artistic Season of the Ghedini Conservatory of Cuneo.
