Monday 28 September, 9am – ESSECI sclab

Tunis, 1959-1961. The Brancata family, of Sicilian origin, live amidst the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the city: Maria, a proud thirty-eight-year-old, raises her three daughters alone while her husband works in the fields. She works as a dressmaker in the Borgel neighborhood; a widower courts her, but she is drawn to the girls, especially Anna, a sixteen-year-old dreamer supported by her uncle Jojo. With Marinette, Anna discovers cinema and fashion. Vitina and Pupetta complete the family picture. The approach of Tunisian independence brings farewells, fears, but also love, secrets, and new stories in a vivid and moving novel. Luca Bianchini presents the book Le ragazze di Tunisi (Mondadori, 2026) in conversation with Stefania Chiavero. Edited by scrittorincittà.

Luca Bianchini was born on February 11, 1970 in Turin. He continues to write in the kitchen, even though he hasn't yet learned to fry like his mother. Since 2003, Mondadori has published all of his novels: Instant LoveI Follow You Every Night, the biography of Eros Ramazzotti, Eros – I SwearIf Tomorrow the Weather Is GoodWe're Just FriendsI Only Love You and Christmas Dinner – which were made into two highly successful films –, Tell Me You Believe in DestinyNo One Like Us – brought to the big screen the following year -, I Know You'll Come Back One DayKisses from PolignanoWives Are Always Right and The Heart Is a Gypsy.
