Patrilineal. A Ghost Story

Thursday, January 30, at 9 p.m. at the Teatro Toselli (via Teatro Toselli, 9), a reading with live music by and featuring Enrico Fink, based on the book Patrilineare. A Ghost Story (Lindau).

Through the experiences of the Fink and Bassani families, Patrilinear: A Ghost Story (Lindau) explores universal themes such as identity, memory, and the legacy of the Holocaust. At the center of the narrative is Elias, a young musician who, after the death of his grandmother, decides to rediscover his Jewish roots. In a complex and intricately structured narrative, with frequent time jumps and flashbacks, Elias's experiences intertwine with those of his family—from his great-grandparents' arrival in Italy to the tragedy of World War II and their deportation to Auschwitz—creating an intimate and engaging tale, a world of memories, emotions, and reflections in which the often painful awareness of the past alternates with comedic tones and self-irony. Patrilinear: A Ghost Story is a book that touches us deeply and helps us understand how our family histories are an integral part of who we are.

Enrico Fink will tell the story on stage at the Teatro Toselli in a reading with live music. He will be joined on vocals and flute by guitarist Massimo Ferri.

Fink's novel received a special mention at the 37th Calvino Prize.
 
Enrico Fink was born in Florence in 1969. He is a composer, singer, and flautist, also active as a playwright, researcher, and artistic director. After graduating in Physics in 1994, he gave up further studies in the field to devote himself entirely to music, first in the dance scene and as a jazz musician, and then to the recovery and promotion of the Italian Jewish musical tradition. In 1998, he staged the play Patrilineare, of the same title as the novel submitted for the Prize, his first and only narrative work.
