Born from the meeting between tenor Fabio Armiliato, one of the most authoritative performers on the international opera scene, and pianist and composer Fabrizio Mocata, CanTango begins with a question even before a specific repertoire: "Can tango and bel canto tell the same story?" "From this research," says Mocata, "a show emerges capable of bringing together seemingly distant musical traditions. It's not a simple meeting of genres, but a reflection on the value of the voice as a narrative tool. If Italian bel canto finds the theater as the natural setting for expressing great feelings, tango canción entrusts them to the streets of Buenos Aires, to cafés, radio stations, and milongas, transforming everyday life into a story." It is from this awareness that the artistic project conceived by Fabio Armiliato and Fabrizio Mocata was born: "a dialogue that seeks not to unite two repertoires, but to highlight their common roots. CanTango pays homage to Gardel, Schipa, and Piazzolla. Three figures from different musical backgrounds, yet in the show they seem to engage in a natural dialogue and alone represent the genesis and evolution of tango and its connection to opera. They provided us with musical material in which we found many points of contact and common ground. This generated a path of shared growth and a profound union that is felt in the live performance and in the staging of the show."
