Author Meetings – Renaissance Piedmont

On May 23rd, the museum will once again host the books of Edizioni Del Capricorno, revealing a new side of Piedmont: the Renaissance. Laura Marino and Michelangelo Giaccone will be in conversation with authors Simone Caldano and Serena D'Italia.

The meeting concludes the diocesan museum's May program: on Friday, May 23, at 5:00 PM, Simone Caldano, author of "Medieval Piedmont," and Serena D'Italia will converse with Laura Marino, director of the San Sebastiano Diocesan Museum, and art historian Michelangelo Giaccone.
The book: "Renaissance Piedmont."
Even today, some persistent preconceptions cause some literature to describe Piedmont as a region resistant to the artistic innovations of the Renaissance.
While it's true that a survey of the region demonstrates that the dominant "manner" was late Gothic until the early 16th century, it would be unfair to overlook the fact that, in the transitional years between the late 15th and early 16th centuries, the Renaissance also took root in Piedmont.
In the subalpine region, people looked to Milan, Rome, the Flemish milieu, and beyond, achieving highly original expressions.
This phenomenon was made possible by the personalities of cultured, ambitious, and contemporary patrons. Thus, guiding us on this journey are members of the clergy at all levels, nobles, military captains, brotherhoods, communities eager to have a sanctuary that would perpetuate the veneration of a miracle, and many others.
Renaissance Piedmont. A much richer and more diverse panorama is thus outlined than is often believed: these are monuments that deserve to be visited, understood, and "cleared," so as to avoid continuing to drag on a biased and partial narrative of the region's historical and artistic history.
