At the theater with the FAI. Visit to the Toselli Theater
The Cuneo FAI Delegation, accepting the invitation of the Piemonte dal Vivo Foundation, a Multidisciplinary Regional Circuit, is offering a special opening of the historic Teatro Toselli in Cuneo as part of the "At the Theatre with FAI" project, created to unite the two Foundations' shared commitment to promoting culture in its various facets and their particular focus on the regional community. The two organizations have been working closely together in the region for some time, with an agreement that allows FAI members to receive reduced-price tickets for performances during the municipal seasons organized by Piemonte dal Vivo.
On Saturday, April 12, 2025, it will be possible to visit the theater on an exclusive tour that will allow visitors to appreciate the historical and artistic value of a space that is more than just a "container" for live performances. A beloved venue for the people of Cuneo for the prose performances and concerts that have attracted so many artists to grace its stage. But perhaps not all Cuneo residents know that what is now a place of entertainment was once a Capuchin monastery with an adjoining church. It was the early 19th century, and Napoleon's passage had brought a breath of fresh air and a desire for innovation to Cuneo as well. The renovations were proposed by the Prefect, Mayor Caisotti of Chiusano, and 36 citizens who, in less than a year, managed to create the place for leisure and entertainment that the city lacked. The project was drawn up in 1803, and the theater was ready to open on Boxing Day of that same year.
Volunteers from the FAI Giovani Cuneo Group will accompany visitors "behind the scenes," offering them the opportunity to enjoy an immersive experience thanks to site-specific performances by actors from the "Accademia Toselli" and student dancers from "La Maison de la Danse."
The public can participate in tours by registering at the FAI reception desk, located at the theater entrance, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Tours will be conducted in groups, with entry every 30 minutes, and require a minimum suggested donation of €5.00 (€3.00 for FAI members) to support the mission of caring for and protecting Italy's cultural heritage, a mission the FAI has been committed to since 1975. This support can also be provided through an annual membership, thus benefiting from preferential access: a concrete gesture in defense of Italy's artistic and natural heritage.
