Under a Waxing Moon: Inauguration of the New Cuneo South Children's Library

Cuneo Sud Logo

It's finally here: the Cuneo Sud Children's Library is back, ready to welcome old friends and curious new readers into a space that grows with those who use it.

The library reopens its doors in new spaces and with a refreshed look: it's moving from the first floor to the ground floor of the Cuneo Due Shopping Center, into new, larger and more welcoming spaces overlooking the Primo Levi Gardens and designed to ensure accessibility and usability for all. The spaces have been designed with dedicated areas for the three main age groups: 0-5 year-6-10 year- , and 11-13 year-.

With its reopening, the library also unveils a new graphic identity: the new logo was inspired by the concept of a "waxing moon," inspired by the red crescent moon that characterizes the library's furnishings. The library accompanies readers as they grow, and so each age group is represented by a lunar phase and a color: the blue of the rising moon for children aged 0 to 5, the red of the crescent moon for children and teens aged 6 to 10, and the yellow of the full moon for older children aged 11 to 13. This graphic system will identify the areas dedicated to each target audience. A waxing moon, like those who read, like those who dream.

The Cuneo Sud Children's Library maintains all its services: book and DVD lending, reading promotion activities, educational and recreational events, and assistance from expert staff and volunteers. Each user can borrow up to four books and two DVDs, with computerized procedures and simplified renewal.

All library services are free, and opening and lending services are handled by volunteers from ABL Amici delle Biblioteche e della Lettura (Friends of Libraries and Reading), an organization that has always supported the reading promotion activities of the Cuneo Civic Libraries.

Councilor for Culture Cristina Clerico: "Our city libraries are undergoing a transformation: new spaces to breathe more freely and accommodate a growing number of functions, and above all to be places where we can enjoy being together. We are very pleased with the new look of the Children's Library in southern Cuneo, not only because it is dedicated to children and young people, but because it is the result of a community effort in which volunteers dedicate time, ideas, and passion to ensuring its vitality. We thank ABL for their immense and invaluable support."

The move and redevelopment of the new headquarters were made possible thanks to PNRR funds and the contribution of the CRC Foundation, the support of the Pianfei and Rocca di Baldi Cooperative Credit Foundation, and the support of ABL.

The official inauguration will be held on Tuesday 7 October at 5pm, in Via Luigi Teresio Cavallo, with an animated reading by Noau Officina Culturale:
