On Thursday, May 8th, at 5:30 p.m., in the rooms of the Casa Galimberti Museum in Cuneo (Piazza Galimberti, 6), the book by Gerardo Severino and Nicola Pettorino, "The Last Battle of the Partisan "Timo", The Story of Attilio Martinetto,

Attilio Martinetto (1922-1945) has long been forgotten. He was rescued from oblivion only thanks to the stubborn perseverance of his wife, Anna Maria Comandù, the sensitivity of a general of the Guardia di Finanza (Luciano Luciani), and that of a careful historian like Sergio Costagli, who, together with Aldo Sacchetti (partisan commander and creator, with Dino Giacosa, of Service X), wrote the invaluable Il Servizio X nella Resistenza (Service X in the Resistance). Yet, Attilio Martinetto, known as Agent Timo, thanks to his role within the Fascist Federation of Cuneo, among many other things, managed to provide valuable advance information on the Nazi-Fascist roundups in the Pesio and Stura Valleys (April 1944) and on the Republican plan to recapture Alba (November 1944). This information helped save many lives. His membership in Service X was discovered by chance following the arrest of another agent, Ettore Garelli. Arrested on November 25, subjected to intense interrogation, he was finally executed on April 25, 1945, near the Cuneo cemetery. On the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of his death and the Liberation, we wanted to dedicate this brief biography to him, hoping, given the dark times we are living through, that the memory and remembrance of such tragic events will help prevent their repetition.

Conversation with the author Luca Piccioni.
