Beyond the Imagination • Meeting with Filip Babicz
Sunday 11 May, 10.30 • Open Baladin (Piazza Foro Boario, Cuneo) • Free, online reservations
An event as part of the Cuneo Montagna Festival. Filip Babicz presents Beyond the Imagination (Rizzoli).
Mountain challenges are the essence of Filip Babicz's life, and speed is his calling. His is a story of dedication, perseverance, perfectionism, and optimism—essential qualities for those who daily confront the vertical dimension, against the clock, without a rope, learning to overcome the unexpected and shift perspective to achieve their goals. Meticulous preparation and the acceptance of risk are for him a way to experience the freedom of feeling at one with the mountain, of being its creature. This and much more is explored in Beyond the Imagination (Rizzoli), which begins with his achievements and the preparation for them, then broadens the scope to include his life experience and what his approach to facing difficulties and climbing mountains can teach each of us.
Filip Babicz is a natural athlete; the mountains are his passion and his natural habitat. Raised in Zakopane, Poland, at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, he has lived in the Aosta Valley beneath Mont Blanc since 2003. Initially focused on sport climbing, first with the Polish national team and then with the Italian one, he participated in World Cup competitions for years. Since 2015, he has been involved in high-level mountaineering. He practices numerous disciplines, from bouldering, especially the "high" version, to winter Himalayan climbing, but his specialties are fast & light mountaineering and dry tooling.
